An Austin, Texas engagement session on South Congress
Lately I’ve been loving more casual pre-wedding photoshoots. We don’t have to label it as an engagement session, you don’t have to dress up, and it doesn’t have to feel traditional or formal. It can be as simple as you and your partner on a date.
I especially love when my Austin clients choose South Congress as the backdrop for these sessions because it can be different every single time. You want to browse art? Get pizza? Have an ice cream date? I’m down. It’s such an easy experience to personalize and make your photos feel like YOU.

Naomi and Humberto took engagement photos before they met me and hired me to be their wedding photographer, so this session was meant to be a more casual “we’re about to get married!” vibe. I like to include complimentary engagement sessions in most of my wedding photography packages so that I get a chance to get to know my couples before their wedding day, in a setting that’s more relaxed. They get a chance to get to know me and my shooting style better, plus this fleeting time in their lives is documented with some fun photos.
As you can probably tell, I especially love how the film from this session turned out. Since I grew up in Austin, film just felt right for the nostalgic vibes South Congress gives me. It’s got so many iconic Austin landmarks that just look beautiful on film.
We shot these on a Sunday morning during the Austin City Limits Festival in October and it wasn’t too crowded on SoCo yet. I think most people were still recovering from the night before. We strolled up and down the street, stopping at Home Slice, Amy’s Ice Creams, the “I love you so much” mural and Austin Motel.
